Grassroots in Nebraska is working with other leaders around the state, including Nebraska Campaign for Liberty, Omaha 9/12, We the People of Hastings, and the Minuteman Patriots of Omaha and Lincoln to support the passage of state sovereignty legislation this Friday at the capitol. We have invited Oklahoma State Representative Charles Key to come and testify and assist us with that effort because of his recognition as a leader on this topic.

The purpose of this resolution is to remind the United States Congress of the principles of Federalism contained in the Ninth and Tenth Amendments to the Constitution.

We invite you to get involved and protect our state sovereignty as we work to decentralize power and restore the Republic in a constitutional fashion. Those attending the hearing should submit written statements (12 copies) so they can be recorded into the official hearing record. HERE are some sample statements.
Those who cannot make the hearing should make contact with the Senators on the Committee conducting the hearing and their own Senators.
Here are some points you may find helpful when making contact about LR 292 (Nebraska Sovereignty Resolution):
• The Federal government is already far overstepping its enumerated powers as provided in the Constitution.
• Nebraska can’t afford the unfunded mandates continually imposed upon it by the federal government to pay for programs Nebraskans either don’t want or don’t need, or for programs and services that Nebraskans could provide more cheaply and efficiently solely at the State and local levels.
• The Federal government is increasingly seeking to influence and control matters that have traditionally been solely State and local concerns (e.g., education, health care). This is a threat to individual liberty. This also results in government inefficiencies and higher costs for the taxpayer. Local control is better because people know what they and their neighbors need and want better than a far-removed federal bureaucracy.
• State and local control is what the Founders intended. The Constitution outlines a federal system, as opposed to a national one, where there is limited federal government with most of the power resting with the States and the people. They did this so that government would be close to the people, accessible to the people, and responsive to them. Nebraskans have ready access to their city and county officials. They can also travel to Lincoln to personally visit their Senators at the Unicameral. Washington, D.C., is inaccessible to the average citizen.
• Nebraskans expect their elected officials to take action to protect their rights if the Federal government encroaches upon them.
• State governments must step forward and send a clear message to Washington that they will not forfeit their power to an increasingly centralized and non-responsive Federal government.
